Grants Manager

Development – Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Department Development
Employment Type Full time
Minimum Experience Experienced

Play On, Philly! (POP) is a well-funded non-profit that enriches K-12 students’ lives by providing daily, after-school music instruction in communities that have little to no access to music education.  POP students receive tuition-free instrumental group lessons as well as general music, choir and composition training.   All students participate in both large and small ensembles and master classes with world-class musicians.

With over 450 students enrolled in POP’s programs at 4 Philadelphia-based schools, we are planning to aggressively grow our reach to help as many students as possible.  To help us realize our growth vision, we are seeking a Grants Manager to enhance our fundraising success.

The Opportunity

Under the direction of POP’s Development Director, this full-time role is responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and securing institutional partners and funders to sustain $1.5 million in annual giving from corporations, government sources, and foundations.  Specific focus will be on writing grant proposals and reports, growing EITC funding from corporate partners, and stewardship of targeted, ongoing corporate and foundation donors.

This job is ideal for you if you possess superior grant writing skills, are driven to find and secure new funding sources, and have a proven record of growing an institutional donor base.  If you enjoy a flexible, hard-working environment and bring an innate willingness to do whatever it takes to be successful, you will thrive in this role.  Major responsibilities include:

  • Manage an existing portfolio of 40+ corporate and foundation donors with a goal of raising at least $1.5 million to meet annual funding goals
  • Grow our existing portfolio by a minimum of 20% annually
  • Write LOIs, grant proposals, and reports for corporate and foundation funders
  • Maintain and expand the development database to reflect, cull and complete documentation of all fundraising activities
  • Lead restrictive corporate giving efforts, including corporate foundation giving EITC funders and general  corporate support
  • Identify, cultivate, and engage a pipeline of corporate and foundation prospects
  • Represent POP at meetings and events as needed (occasionally nights and weekends)
  • Perform other duties as assigned and required

Qualifications

We are seeking detail-oriented candidates with a willingness to roll-up their sleeves to accomplish great things.  Other qualifications include:

  • 3 years of non-profit grants writing experience is required, with a preference for experience in the Arts
  • A proven track record of meeting and exceeding fundraising goals
  • Excellent writing and presentation skills, with superior attention to detail and drive for accuracy
  • Ability to function independently as well as part of a collegial team
  • Ability to assist with cash flow planning and expenditure tracking, with assistance from the Development Director and the finance staff
  • Willingness to work flexible hours of a deadline-driven position and be able to travel locally when needed
  • BS Degree is strongly preferred
  • Commitment to the highest standards of professional, ethical behavior
